How To Care For

Caring For Your Gems and Jewelry

I understand how meaningful and important your jewelry is so here are some ways to help ensure the longevity of your gems and jewelry.

General Care Tips

  • Avoid Water & Chemical Exposure: Other than your permanent jewelry I recommend removing your jewelry before swimming, showering, or doing any activity that involves water. Chlorine, saltwater, and even sweat can cause discoloration and wear on your pieces. I also recommend limiting your jewelry's exposure to lotions, perfumes, hair spray etc. by putting your jewelry on after using any products.

  • Safe Storage: To keep your jewelry protected when not in use, store each piece in dry and airtight bag. This is especially true for sterling silver to help prevent tarnish. Or in a cotton bag to help prevent scratches and dust build up. Always make sure your storage is dry.

Caring for Your Gemstone Jewelry

Element506's meaningful gemstone jewelry is made with natural stones, and like all natural elements, they need protection from certain conditions.

Protect from Direct Sunlight: Natural gemstones can fade or lose their vibrancy if exposed to direct sunlight over time. Keeping your pieces out of direct sunlight will help preserve the rich colors of the stones.

Caring for Your Sterling Silver Jewelry

Sterling silver when not being worn can tarnish over time but it can be polished up like new.

Steps to sterling silver.

  1. Using a polishing cloth gently buff the piece.
  2. If a deeper clean is needed you can use a mild soap with your polishing cloth.
  3. Rinse the jewelry with clean water and dry it thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth.
  4. If your silver is badly tarnished which typically happens from a chemical exposure you may need a silver cleaner.
  5. Store your sterling in an airtight bag to prevent tarnishing and avoid chemical exposure. Wearing your pieces frequently will help to avoid tarnish.
